THE TREE

RECYCLING IN THE NEW                                       YEAR...THE TREX PROJECT

As we begin this new Year we                                wish everyone hope, peace                                    and a return to a healthy World. We also want to give thanks to all of our conservationists out there who have delivered thousands of plastic bags to us and a profound thank you to Sean Bowling, store manager of Wegman's in Moorestown for processing them. He and his Wegman team are working closely with The Woman's League of Mt. Holly to get the plastic bags we bring them to the recycling plant. Chairman Arline Dederick, President Doreen Carnvale and DVP Jill McDonald delivered 10 huge bags to the store and Sean is willing to continue to do so each week until we reach our goal of 500 lbs. These bags are only about 5lbs each but just look what we can do when we join together to keep plastic bags out of the landfills. We still need more bags to complete our project of collecting 500 lbs. to receive our recycled bench made from those bags so keep them coming. They can be dropped off on the porch at 37 Union Street, Mt. Holly 08060.

Our ladies, Jill, Doreen, and Arline, from the Woman's League of Mt. Holly are still hard at work collecting plastic bags to be recycled into a park bench. We have collected enough for one bench and now our goal is to collect enough for one more. Both will replace benches that have done their job and the area can use some love and dedication from all of us. Once we have our benches we will announce the location so that you can all visit and know that you contributed not only plastic bags, but, to the environment. Just think how many bags we have kept out of the landfills. Please take your bags to 37 Union Street Mt. Holly and just leave them on the porch. Spread the word to friends and neighbors. And above all, thank you once again for your support.

WE DID IT BUT....YES WE                                        ARE STILL COLLECTING                                               PLASTIC BAGS

After more than nine months of collecting plastic bags, we are finally going to receive our first recycled bench in just a matter of weeks. Shown here is what it will look like and The Woman's League of Mt. Holly is excited as we await it's arrival.

We are on our way to our second bench now and welcome your continued support. Who knew how many bags it would take to reach 500 lbs? Certainly not us. Thanks to all of you who donated and saved thousands of plastic bags from going into our landfills. It was amazing the number of bags it took to stuff into a huge lawn bag to make just 5-7 lbs. Please continue to drop them off at 37 Union Street in Mt. Holly. BTW: do you buy large packages of toilet paper wrapped in plastic? Put veggies in plastic bags at the store? Get clothes from the dry cleaners? This plastic and so much more is often overlooked in recycling so they are welcome in your donation.

Blast from the Past... What a great memory from 2018. The Woman's League of Mt. Holly's contribution to a NJSFWC District conservation contest was an outfit made entirely of recycled reusable Walmart bags. Modeled by Doreen Carnvale, a fringed vest, flared skirt, handbag and even a little hairpiece completed the outfit and landed our club a second place win. What fun.

CEREMONIES

Honorary Member 2020-Joan Shibla Lynch - In a lovely surprise ceremony, past President Joelle Wentz and 2020-2021 President Doreen Carnvale honored Joan Shibla Lynch after 62 years of continued dedication to her Club and Community. Members Joyce, Carol, Karen, and Gerry were able to join in as well as Joan's husband Bill and Daughter Joy.

There is no denying we miss our friends at Samuel Miller Senior Housing in Mt. Holly. To let them know how much we miss our monthly themed bingo's, Halloween bags have been made up by a member of the Women's League of Mt. Holly, Jill McDonald. A friend, decorated the bags and a neighbor helped to fill them with tissues, notebook, pen, candy, lotion, and deodorant. A card inserted in each bag says: "The leaves are falling but our friendship meter is not. Keep Well. Stay Safe. Until we can play bingo once again".

The Woman's League of Mt. Holly send A Happy St. Patrick's Day to all our friends and may this day bring sunshine to each of you.

The saying is that everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day and member Jill McDonald wanted to makes sure our friends in the community celebrated her favorite holiday with her. First stop was Monday's lunch program at The first Presbyterian Church in Mt. Holly. Jill delivers 50 bags of cookies to Jan Delgado and her wonderful volunteers twice a week for their lunch bags, but this time they were surprised with some luck of the Irish Shamrock cookies.

Next stop for Jill was with the help of member Ginger Katz to our friends at Samuel Miller Senior Center. Bags were decorated and filled with Irish goodies including those Shamrock cookies. Thank you Jill and Ginger for spreading some Luck 'O' the Irish to our neighbors.

The Woman's League was able to once again bring smiles to 28 of our friends at Samuel Miller with Easter baskets filled with goodies. Gloria, a resident there, will distribute them as a surprise to brighten their day. As always we thank our Members who stepped up and supplied candy, kitchen towels, hand sanitizers, and items needed to assemble the baskets. Included as a special surprise were masks made by our Mother Daughter team, Doris and Stephanie, in beautiful Spring/Easter designs. We hope they enjoy their goodies and hope the bunny ears headband will look fabulous with their Easter outfits.

Happy Mother's Day....The Woman's League of Mt. Holly is sending all of you, our friends and neighbors, best wishes for a Happy Mother's Day.

To put happy thoughts and a touch of spring in their hearts, our ladies once again made certain that our friends at Samuel Miller were not forgotten. Thanks to Elaine, and Ginger, lovely little baskets, filled with cookies, some jewelry for the ladies (extra cookies for the men) and a plaque were delivered to each resident by Gloria.

DAD'S BIGDAY....What a perfect day for the Woman's League of Mt. Holly to welcome Summer and wish Dad's everywhere a wonderful, Happy Fathers Day. We thought we would make it special for our dear friends at Samuel Miller with a baseball themed goodie bag. As we all know, it is sometimes hard to find a perfect thing for Dad's big day. Shirts and ties seem to be the norm but this time Elaine and Allan Hollowell got it just right with this gift. A baseball cap, lots of personal care products, cookies and brownies (Jill McDonald) filled the bags. Residents Gloria and Fran delivered not only goodies for the men but also for the women. Comments from everyone, such as “wow”, “so nice of them”, “they never forget us” and best of all “I could use this stuff” warmed our hearts and let us know how much they appreciate our efforts to always make them feel special.

IT'S A GRAND OLD FLAG.

The Woman's League of Mt. Holly is hoping you are getting ready to celebrate a beautiful 4th of July. As we enjoy all that this day stands for, it seems that we are emerging from a cocoon and feeling a renewed sense of freedom. Let us not forget those that went before us. Their spirit lives on in each of us and because of that, we ladies embrace our mission to make our surrounding communities a better place to live. Even though we are 'on vacation' until September, it just means we don't hold meetings until then. Over the summer we are still active and today our dear friends at Samuel Miller Housing in Mt. Holly once again feel the love, thanks to club members who made up goodie bags and cupcakes. Everything patriotic from a kitchen towel, a plaque, and a flag will help them each enjoy their day along with all of us.

And our work continues...

same Tree new Name...

The Warming Tree

The Woman's League of

Mt. Holly is at it again this

year. Our Wish Tree is now

a warming tree and will be

in place until mid-January

We could use your help in gathering new hats, gloves, mittens, and scarves for men, women and children to keep them warm as the weather gets colder. Do you knit or crochet? Need a place to showcase your creations? Why not display them on the tree waiting for you at the Burlington County Library or place them in baskets that will be placed there. While there help yourself to a candy cane as our gift to you for your continued support.

UPDATE:

It's the time of year we take down our multi purpose tree at the Burlington County Library. Each year we start in November with the Wish Tree and before the end of December we morph into a Warming Tree. You came, you donated hats scarves and gloves, and in your comments on our posts you shared your caring hearts. January 28th marks the end for this season and there are so many of you to thank for a truly unique, generous and rewarding winter. Thank you to the Staff at the Library who worked to support our efforts. Thank you to club members who worked so hard to reinvent ways to make these projects succeed. And most of all we thank our loyal followers who looked beyond the way it used to be and donated anyway. We are proud of what we have accomplished because you all joined our team to make a difference. Please call Joyce Shultz @609-265-1121 with any questions.

Soles for Souls

Members of the Woman's League of Mount Holly have been collecting gently used shoes, boots, and sandals for children and adults throughout the COVID-19 restrictions.  Over 500 pairs have been donated through Soles 4 Souls, a not for profit charity, which collects the shoes to help disrupt the cycle of poverty.  The program provides shoes so children can attend school, expands their micro-enterprise program which teaches people in developing nations how to start their own small business and provides immediate relieve to victims of natural disasters in the United States and world-wide.  A convenient drop box as pictured here is located at the Burlington County campus of Rowan University in parking lot 15 (just off route 537).

VIRTUA REHABILITATION CENTER

Happy Valentine's Day From The

Woman's League of Mt. Holly

It has been one year since we held

bingo for the resident's of Virtua

Re-Hab and we miss our friends.

That doesn't mean that we forgot them. Although we are not allowed inside, we still supply prizes, snacks and gifts. and each month the bingo is being held by staff working there. Member Jill McDonald delivered 20 Valentine bags to our dear Virtua Bingo players last week. These were put together by friend of the league Rita Sykes, who lives in Holiday Village in Mt. Laurel, and league members Ginger, Joyce and Jill. Each bag was filled with toiletries, a Valentines card, candy, crackers, and pretzels with cheese. We can't wait until they allow us to once again return and we thank the hard working staff for continuing to hold the games in our place.

VETERANS

Let us not forget our Veterans

at Veteran's Haven South in

Winslow

Valentine's Day is a way to let

others know that we love and

appreciate them. What better way for the Woman's League to express love for our Veterans at Veteran's Haven South in Winslow, NJ than by giving them a gift from our hearts. With donations from members, Bette Kirby, Jean Wasnesky, Joan Beach and Ruth Conger, met at the home of Joelle Wentz, and had a fun time putting together bags filled with cupcakes, cookies, fruit snacks, Rice Krispie treats, pretzels, candies and lots of love. An abundance of goodies allowed us to fill 160 bags and 80 Veterans will receive 2 bags each.

Transitioning...When Veterans transition from Veterans Haven into their own apartments there are many things they need to set up their household. To give them the boost they need, Joelle Wentz a member of the Mt. Holly Woman's League, came up with the unique idea of holding an 'Apartment Shower' for Veteran's Haven. Many household items donated by the generous members of the Woman's League of Mt. Holly were collected and delivered by Joelle with the help of husband Dave, a proud veteran himself. Working to unload silverware, dishes, cups, pots and pans, glasses, towels, cooking utensils, microwaves and much more, Dave and his two helpers soon developed a shared rapport in the short time they were together.

The Woman's League of Mt. Holly is in awe of the 26 beautiful handmade quilts made and donated to us by the Needle and Thread Group of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. These were delivered by Joelle Wentz to Veterans Haven as an extension of our recent “Apartment Shower” for veteran's transitioning into their own homes. What a welcome gift to keep them warm and we thank Needle and Thread for their generosity and for joining us in our efforts to bring love and a smile to our veterans.

Veterans Transitioning continued...Representing The Woman's League of Mt. Holly, Joelle and Dave Wentz delivered the last of our collection of gifts to Veteran's Haven for project 'Housewarming Shower'. Microwaves, dishes, glasses, silverware and so much more, are giving a start to those transitioning to an apartment. Our hearts are full knowing that so many of you helped to make this possible and the veteran's were very appreciative of the generous bounty. One of those veteran's invited Joelle and Dave to see his African influenced artwork. What a beautiful display to share with everyone.

OUR YEAR COMES TO A CLOSE

In the past The Woman's League of Mt. Holly celebrated the last meeting of our club year with a banquet. This year because of the pandemic we held a 'Building Memories' pineapple themed box dinner in our meeting hall. A wonderful turnout allowed us to meet our newest members in person and to reconnect with others not seen in over a year. The hall was filled with chatter as we caught up. A Pink Rose Milestone Anniversary Ceremony was held after which Carol Kovacs and Karen Davis were awarded the Order of the Lily. This is a high honor given to those who are committed to continuously serving her club, Federation and community. We chanced off a huge lovely 'Pineapple' basket won by member Ginger Katz. Meetings are now suspended until we meet again in September, but that doesn't stop us from all of our ongoing projects planned for the Summer.

At the last meeting of our club year The Woman's League of Mt. Holly was able to finally gather in person. A Milestone Anniversary Ceremony was held for every 5 years of membership and this year we had eight recipient's. To make this special it was named The Pink Rose Ceremony which signifies gentleness, grace, appreciation gratitude, and happiness. President Doreen Carnvale presented these awards to:Brenda Fischer 5 yrs, Karen Davis 10 yrs, Gerry Horne 10 yrs, Joyce Schultz 15 yrs, Shirley Snyder 20 yrs, and Carol Ward 30 yrs. Not in attendance Audrey Winzinger 10 yrs and June Flanagan 10 yrs. To make the ceremony even more significant, Doreen then presented a dozen pink roses to Carol Kovacs for 50 years of dedication and service. Her charm and witty humor always make our gatherings very special..

IT'S SUMMERTIME BUT WORK CONTINUES

Recently Elaine Eufemia, Jan Ralls & Joelle Wentz                                              from the Women's League of Mount Holly assisted                                            young members of the Farm & Community Youth                                              Club, at a migrant camp in Hammonton.  Joelle's                                              husband, Dave, gave a presentation to the older group at tables nearby.

This year, members  donated over 650 welcome gifts for migrant workers and their children, including baseball caps, clothes pins, toiletries, t-shirts, socks, cotton bandanas, notepads with pens & pencils, picture books, chapter books, and a bat & ball, plus 35 pounds of rice, 35 pounds of beans, and ShopRite gift cards to purchase refreshments.

Migrant Worker Outreach director, Dory Dickson, was glad for our help with this group's first official club meeting of the year. League members have provided significant support for our clubs this summer.

Members, Bonnie and Nancy Balsavage have been collecting donations of school supplies. book bags and of course our monthly birthday bags for Pineland's Family center. To our delight Doris and Stefanie Berdugo- Hernandez surprised us with a donation from Staples of 200 Student Care Boxes. Thank you to all and a very special thank you to Staples for their generosity. We were able to not only share them with Jen from Pineland's but also with Harry from the First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Holly. What a nice start to a new school year.

Are we on vacation? No way!!! Our TEAM is busy and we love it!

Our club year ended in June and The Woman's League of Mt. Holly will resume meetings on September 13th for our 2021-2022 year. But over the summer we are working hard to create new ways to serve our communities and continuing many of our ongoing projects. Close to our hearts for many years is Operation Smile. The plight of children with facial deformities is beyond cruel. 15 years ago, new member Joyce Schultz joined then President, Barbara Cotton, in sewing and stuffing 'Smile Dolls' to be given to children before their life changing operations. This project continues today and we have Bonnie and Nancy Balsavage, and Bette Kirby to thank for this year's contribution. Added to our delivery to Operation Smile within the next few months will be goody bags sewn by members Ruth Conger and Joan Beach, along with many gifts, donated by members, to fill them. Added to that are our busy sewing bees making tiny, little hospital gowns for the children to wear on their big day.
